The Letter painting
The painting "The Letter" was painted by Berthold Woltze. Berthold Woltze was a German painter who lived from 1829 to 1896. He created the painting in the 19th century, around 1880 to be precise.
The deeper meaning of the painting can be interpreted on several levels. The painting shows a woman who appears to be depressed or pensive while holding a letter in her hand. A little girl, presumably her daughter, looks at her anxiously and tries to comfort her. This indicates an emotional burden that has been triggered by the contents of the letter.
